The Harbourside is at Kowloon Station, and this minimalist interior design is for a children’s room of around 62 sq ft shared by two children, aged 4 and 6. The design takes an indoor campsite as its theme: a tent bed, a curved platform and green leaf-pattern wallpaper make the room itself part of the play, with a palette limited to timber, white and a single green. The images below are design renderings.
Tent bed and curved platform
The tent bed stands on a timber platform whose edge is rounded into a curve and stepped in two levels, with lighting tucked into the steps: somewhere to sit and climb with fewer hard corners to bump into. The wall beside the bed is papered in a green leaf pattern and lined with arched upholstered panels of varying heights that work as both decoration and backrest. A cloud-shaped ceiling edge and a timber-clad soffit with downlights above the window carry the theme overhead.
Shelving and window seat
On the other side of the bed, a run of timber open shelves with built-in lighting holds books, blocks and toys within easy reach. The shelving continues from the platform to the window, where a timber seat with cushions makes a corner for reading and rest in filtered daylight. The platform itself conceals further storage, keeping the floor clear.
A children’s room does not need to be loud to be playful. A bed, a curve and a wallpaper are enough to give children a sense that the room is theirs, and clear zoning gives sleep, play and reading their own places.
