Retreat Corners Beneath Eight-Foot Ceilings

How activities, furniture and light can establish a focused or restful corner at home.

Student projects at the PolyU Design Show explored rituals, lion dance, sign language and learning tools. Their consideration of space and behaviour can inform residential planning.

Define the activity

A rug, pendant or furniture orientation can establish a distinct corner. Understand reading, tea or meditation routines before deciding whether a room or platform is needed.

Respect proportion

An eight-foot ceiling calls for care with lofts and double-level references. Lower furniture and suitable lighting can still create a settled, layered place to rest.

Make measured adjustments

Across five previous residential projects, arrangements for these corners ranged from several thousand to twenty thousand Hong Kong dollars. The priority was understanding the activity, then coordinating light, furniture and boundaries. Please contact our team to assess a focused or restful corner.
