From Drawings to Site: A Design Director’s Reflections
Site observations on structure, design references and the decisions involved in project delivery.
Reading Lin Jialing’s reflections on life prompted me to reconsider everyday design practice. Drawings establish direction; a site reveals the relationship between structure, materials and human scale.
Site conditions and judgement
Beams, pipe routes and ceiling height influence feasibility. For a home with an approximately eight-foot ceiling, we retained height and used transitions between three materials to make a beam a visual focus.
Adapting style to the space
Another owner preferred Nordic interiors, but the flat had a diamond-shaped living room and small sill. We adjusted the white-and-timber proposal with microcement, selective colour and layered lighting, allowing corners to define functional areas.
Clear communication
The designer should explain material limitations, costs and construction conditions. References need adaptation to actual proportions and routines. Please contact our team to discuss a suitable direction.
